Effective July 1, 2021, the law expanded the ability to include longevity increases for the salary of a first-class patrolman or first-class firefighter.
Under the new law, if a unit has provided for longevity increases for more than 20 years but less than 25 years through the meet and confer process, then increased longevity pay is included in the new definition of salary of a first-class patrolman or firefighter. If a unit does not follow the meet and confer process, then the longevity pay of up to 20 years is included in the salary. See IC 36-8-1-11.
