Why can INPRS only provide up to a six-month retroactive benefit for members who were eligible to retire but had applied after their eligibility date?

INPRS's ability to provide a retroactive benefit of up to six months is outlined in IC 5-10.2-4-1(d). For this rule to change, new legislation would be required. Members that meet the requirements and apply for an in-service retirement as a Millie Morgan retiree, an elected official, or a PARF member, are not eligible for six-month retroactive payments under IC 5-10.2-4-8.2 and 35 IAC 1.2-6-17.2.
