Legislation passed in 2015 permits INPRS to make benefit payments electronically, eliminating paper checks in most cases. INPRS’ board approved the use of stored value or debit cards in lieu of paper checks in September 2016.
This change provides cost savings while improving payment convenience, timeliness, and security for members. INPRS members who receive Social Security benefits are already familiar with direct deposit. Social Security makes more than 99 percent of its Indiana payments electronically.
