If you transfer to a non-eligible position and are not already eligible for full, unreduced retirement, you will no longer remain a participant in RMBA, and your balance will be forfeited. If you are eligible for full, unreduced retirement, you will still be in the RMBA, but you will no longer receive contributions.
However, if an employee of the state transfers to a non-eligible position within the state police after June 30, 2011, the employee can make a one-time irrevocable election to become a participant in the RMBA within 60 days of being hired. Participants who make this choice will still receive contributions to their accounts. The employee who makes this election cannot also be a participant in the state police retiree medical benefit plan.
